Craftsmanship is one of the activities which doesn’t demand additional costs and a long list of documents necessary for registration. It is becoming more and more popular in Belarus. Craftsmanship is of great importance for people with disabilities who experience difficulties in finding a job in a free labour market because of the medical indications they have, for people without higher or special education.
An off-site activity within the framework of the project “Accessible work” was organized to discuss the following issues: how to register as a craftsman, how to find your niche in a labour market, how to learn new activities, how to implement supported employment service. 30 people from different regions of Belarus (Gomel, Minsk, Vitebsk, Mogilev, Smorgon, Luninets, Zhlobin, Volozhin and Vileyka) – persons with disabilities and specialists from Territorial Centres of Social Services to Population and representatives of primary organizations of NGO “BelAPDIiMI” – spent 5 days in a guest house “Zvezdniy”.
This year we had guests from Russia – a representative of a nonprofit organization “Good thing” (Yekaterinburg). The organization unites a team of specialists who are engaged in socialization and rehabilitation of people who need special assistance and support: “Equality in rights, brotherhood in work and freedom in creativity”. Main areas of their work are: – provision of services in the field of vocational guidance and labour employment, social support; – promotion and creation of specialized working places for people in a difficult life situation; – realization, development and improvement of methods and technologies of complex rehabilitation, support and assistance to people with disabilities etc.
We had a very busy schedule: every morning we participated in master classes:
— handmade soap making. Territorial Centre of Social Services to Population in Vileyka;
— paper plaiting; how to work with graphic editors (creation of printing products), Territorial Centre of Social Services to Population in Vitebsk;
— making and decoration of wax candles, NGO “BelAPDIiMI” in Gomel;
— printed mugs, unitary enterprise “My perspective”, NGO “BelAPDIiMI” in Luninets;
— water-color felting, Yekaterinburg, nonprofit organization “Good thing”.
Every afternoon the participants from the regions presented their work: projects on ecology, creation of sheltered working places, implementation of supported employment service.

— We would like to say thank you for such a useful activity. It helped us to adopt rich experience of other organizations who presented their master classes on occupation for young people with disabilities. We plan to use this knowledge in our work. All master classes were carried out in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, it united all the youngsters. Everyone learnt something new. The organizations will definitely use the knowledge received during the trainings and master classes. And if someone forgets it, a present made by the unitary enterprise “My perspective” (a mug with a printed photo of all the participants of the activity) will remind him/her about that.
