Activity dedicated to the International Child Protection Day
On April 28, the activity “It’s time for good deeds”, dedicated to the International Child Protection Day, was carried out in the foyer of the cinema “Belarus” (in the heart of Minsk). The activity was organized by the Minsk City Organization of the NGO “BelAPDIiMI”.
A photo exhibition of portraits of children with disabilities was organized. It was located in the cinema hall.
More than 140 youngsters, their parents and specialists from Minsk participated in the activity.
A concert took place; children and teenagers with disabilities, as well as their healthy peers – children’s music groups – performed at the concert. It was a great pleasure for boys and girls to participate in master classes (“aqua make-up”, “soap bubble blowing technique”, dance master class).
Activity carried out in cooperation with the Belarusian State Medical University
On April 18-22, the activities of the NGO “BelAPDIiMI” were presented at the International scientific conference of students and young scientists “Topical problems of modern medicine”, which was organized on the basis of the Belarusian State Medical University. It was the first big joint activity of our organization and future doctors and their lecturers. Employees of the NGO “BelAPDIiMI” got an opportunity to talk about their work, to present and distribute special literature and information booklets about children and young people with disabilities, to communicate directly with participants of the conference, to answer their questions.
The university lecturer, who is a consultant in the Minsk children’s hospital, said that she had been using special literature, published by the NGO “BelAPDIiMI”, in her work for a long time. Parents of her small patients can copy necessary materials.
Employees and students of the university carried out a charitable Action: they collected gifts (toys, office supplies, creativity kits etc.) for families which look after children with disabilities. These gifts will make children from different regions of Belarus, where primary organizations of the NGO “BelAPDIiMI” are located, happy.
Recreation in the “SOS Children’s Village” in Borovlyany
Within the framework of cooperation of the NGO “BelAPDIiMI” and the NGO “Belarusian fund “SOS – Children’s Village”, on April 8-28, 2011 2 families which look after children with disabilities were given a respite on the basis of the “SOS Children’s Village” in Borovlyany village (Minsk region).
One of the mothers is sharing her impressions:
“At the beginning of April, in the regular meeting of the regional member organization of the NGO “BelAPDIiMi”, our family was suggested resting in the H. Gmainer social centre (SOS Village in Borovlyany). We agreed, and we didn’t regret.
Well-wishing and responsive people met us there. A house which had already been moved into by a family from Pinsk city was shown to us. Children quickly made each other’s acquaintance and began to explore the house and the yard.
They saw all the things they talked about in a whisper: roller blades, many soft toys, TV set and, of course, bunk beds in bedrooms. Besides, there was a playground with a slide, swing, gymnastics wall bars and a stadium in the yard.
Experienced and competent people – teacher, psychologist, nurse, matron, social workers – worked with us from the very first moment.
We didn’t only have a rest in the centre, but were also offered an interesting entertainment programme, taking into account our children’s wishes. We visited the city zoo, the “Dinopark”, we saw a wonderful circus show and visited the Memorial Complex Khatyn. Our children participated in the entertainment programme “Rainbow bus”.
When mothers went out for food, social workers and our children were busy with different things: they embroidered, created items with beads, made origami, designed, put together jigsaw puzzles, weaved and played other board games.
Apart from that, we visited the republican institute of radiation safety of the population, workers measured a radiation background and gave us certain advice. And then we met Ms Tatsumi Masako from Japan, the representative of the fund “Chiro” in Belarus. She brought colourful booklets about her motherland, told children about several peculiarities of Japan hieroglyphs.
She also gave us vitamins. We were thankful for this present. We are very happy that there is such a centre in the country. And we are thankful to administration of the centre, to teachers and organizers for giving us an opportunity to relax and receive a lot of pleasure.”
Cooperation with the NGO “Belarusian fund “SOS – Children’s Village” continues. And now other boys and girls are looking forward to their turn to rest in the “Children’s Village”.
