They have been handing out informational materials about people with disabilities, Conventions on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” to visitors of the park during 3 hours:

Brochure “Ordinary People” – publication about equal and independent participation of people with disabilities in life of society, it is addressed to families bringing up young people with disabilities and specialists working in the field of provision assistance and support to these people as well as to staff of different state and public structures, students of high specialized educational institutions, to adults with mental disabilities and to the general public.

Postcard “10 wishes” containing recommendations on ethical aspects of behavior and communication with people with disabilities. For example, such as – “speaking with a person using a wheelchair or crutches place yourself in such a way that your and his/her eyes were at the same level – it will be easier for you to talk.”

Booklet “Sign by heart” which was published at the beginning of 2014 at the initiative of the Office on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for the information campaign “Sign by heart”. The main idea of the campaign is to provide opportunities for everyone who is not indifferent to problems of people with disabilities, to express the civic position on adoption of Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Some visitors refused the suggested materials. But the majority treated children friendly and attentively, immediately began to look through the brochures and postcards.

The children liked communication with visitors. Seeing interest and friendly attitude, they told with a pleasure about themselves and handed out the informational materials.

Representatives of the Administration of Zavodskoy district of Minsk city, the Department of Education, Sports and Tourism of Zavodskoy district who took part in the activity, supported our action and said that it is important and necessary for people to know more about people with disabilities.

People with disabilities have equal with other people rights. But, unfortunately, there are many barriers for realization of their rights as well as stereotypes that lead to discrimination and isolation of such people.

The Informational handouts quickly ran out. Children had a little more walk in the park and went home. We hope that these actions will contribute to the disappearance of barriers and hostility toward people with disabilities, and it will become easily for children to be in society, they will find necessary understanding and support!
