On October 27, 2011, the seminar “Occupational Therapy in Belarus” was carried out on the basis of the Belarusian Resource and Adaptation Centre “Open Doors” of the NGO “BelAPDIiMI”.
Occupational therapy means all kinds of activities which contribute to development and sustainability of people with physical, psychological and/or mental disabilities. It is a method of treatment based on use of working processes with the aim to recover, develop and compensate lost or insufficient functions.
The trainer from the Netherlands, Dr Jan Schrurs, conducted the seminar.
5-hour programme of the seminar covered several topics like occupational therapy in practice, guiding challenging behaviour and animal therapy (including dog therapy). The participants exchanged opinions and asked questions at the end of the seminar.
Employees of Territorial centres of social services to population, Centres of corrective and developing education and rehabilitation and residential institutions, representatives of NGOs and parents participated in the seminar.
